ABOUT US

Wakeman Camp sits at the mouth of  the Wakeman River, surrounded by mountains and the quiet waters of Wakeman Sound. It offers a simple, remote place to stay in the wilderness. The two restored cabins can be rented spring-fall as basic, off-grid accommodation for work crews, cultural groups, research teams or anyone who needs a quiet base. Each cabin has a kitchen, refrigeration, bathrooms, hot running water and solar-powered wireless internet.

The cabins have a unique history. The “school house” cabin began in the early 20th century as a one-room school for the small, scattered communities that grew around local logging. In the 1960s it became the watchman’s cabin for the Wakeman logging camp. Winters here were harsh, and over the years loggers, families and travellers have all used the buildings, leaving their mark on the place.

The Wakeman Valley itself is part of the traditional territory of the Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis First Nation (KHFN). For generations KHFN families fished, hunted, gathered and lived here with respect for the land and waters. That knowledge still guides how the valley is cared for today. Visitors are asked to come with respect and curiosity about its deeper story.

HEAR FROM  WAKEMAN CAMP GUESTS

The wakeman camp wilderness cabins are absolutely amazing. Very unique cabins, They have everything you need, comfy beds, and the food is even better from the chef Hannah who made some amazing meals. I was there for multiple stays during forestry engineering work. Hannah and her husband Chris were very welcoming. The wildlife in the area is next to none, between whales and dolphins, to grizzlies walking right by your cabin. Cougars, deer, and the number of eagles during the salmon season is such a nice sight for the photographers that need that perfect shot. They have everything, for anyone!
