Meet the Neighbours

Coastal Wolf

You will be lucky if you see this elusive predator, however, footprints, scat and other signs are easy to stumble across

Grizzly bear

Although there is a population of black bears, the grizzly bear is more common. Proper bear safety must be practiced around these beautiful mammals.

Blacktail Deer

Common visitors to Wakeman camp. Deer are regularly spotted in person and on trail cams.

Mountain Lion

They typically avoid human contact, however, safety measures should still be taken in the bush.

Bald Eagle

Very common in this region, bald eagle sightings are a guarantee.

Trumpeter Swan

These large, beautiful birds overwinter in the Wakeman Valley.

Blue Heron

You will likely see them waiting at the water's edge for passing fish to hunt, and if you wait with the same patience, you can witness a catch.

Kingfisher

These birds boast bright colours and loud, rattling calls. You may see them swooping between trees or over the water, searching for fish.

Salmon

Chinhook, Chum and pink salmon can be easily viewed spawning throughout the Wakeman watershed
